Product description
The Basic Conditions of Employment Act Explained is a practical guide on how to interpret, apply and implement the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, 1997.
This publication is a practical guide on how to interpret, apply and implement the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, 1997 (BCEA), which has been amended extensively with effect from 1 January 2019. These most recent amendments are dealt with in detail in the publication as well as pending amendments contained in the Labour Laws Amendment Act, 2018 which were not in force at the time of going to print. The BCEA primarily prescribes the conditions of employment which employers must, as a minimum, grant their employees. It also prescribes the functions and powers of Labour Inspectors and the applicable procedures in the event that an employer fails or refuses to comply with the BCEA. This publication does not focus on the BCEA in isolation. Where other employment laws are required to be read in conjunction with or have an impact on the BCEA, the publication adequately addresses those laws.
